One of the key areas that differentiates us from other clinics that attempt to treat back or neck pain is that we have our own spine specialized therapy department under one roof.

For example, in many unspecialized clinics, a physician will see the patient, do an exam, and then refer the back pain sufferer across town to a physical therapy clinic with a general "evaluate & treat" prescription for physical therapy. This often means the general physical therapist starts from scratch with another assessment based on their own evaluation, in some cases without the benefit of knowing what the physician found out through the diagnostic tests performed.

This general physical therapist may see a variety of problems in a day, from sore elbows, sore knees, sore shoulders etc. Also, in most cases, this general therapist has a very limited understanding of how to take care of specific types of back problems. At best, a typical physical therapist has taken a couple courses on how to perform therapy for a back or neck injury.

A general physical therapist may also rely too heavily on passive "modalities" – like ice, heat or ultrasound – to treat back pain. That can be bad as research has shown that using passive treatments like these are NOT the best way to get someone back to activity quickly.

How our spine center differs

Instead of sending a person across town, the patient goes directly into the rehab department and is connected with a spine specialized therapist. Instead of starting from scratch, the therapist works from information gleaned from the physician's evaluation, picking up where the doctor left off.

What does this mean for you?

Instead of getting a general approach, your therapist is specialized in back and neck pain and has advanced hands-on skills that can relieve your back pain and get your injured muscles, tissues and spinal structures moving again. Instead of a single school of thought, you get the benefit of being treated by someone who has a variety of skills and can use the one that best matches your particular problem.
