Richard Castillo, M.D.
Spine Surgeon

Dr. Castillo is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon, the highest level of training for a spine surgeon in the United States. He specializes in the nonsurgical and surgical management of back and neck pain patients at New Mexico Spine.

Most recently, Dr. Castillo has practiced at New Mexico Orthopaedic Associates since 1990.

He is on active staff at Presbyterian Hospital and Lovelace Sandia Hospital.

Dr. Castillo completed his undergraduate degree at Stanford University in 1978. His Doctor of Medicine was completed in 1982 at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Castillo completed his surgical internship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1984 and his residency in orthopaedic surgery in 1988 at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Fellowships in spine surgery were completed at Ranchos Los Amigos Hospital in Downey, California from 1988-1989 and at the University of Washington from July 1989 to December 1989.

Dr. Castillo is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of Greater Albuquerque Medical Association and the New Mexico Medical Society.
